The Gawky Gardener

I'm an English teacher from the Netherlands who loves gardening. I have lived together with my fiancé and our dog in our wonderful home since 2016. We started the drastic garden make-over in 2017 and are still working hard to create that romantic cottage-like garden like the ones we have visited in England. So far, it looks far from the Sissinghurst castle gardens I invisioned. 😅 My lack of gardening-experience and immense fear of bugs (except bumble bees, bumble bees are cool) make the whole thing rather difficult. I also try to avoid using any toxic pesticides so unfortunately sometimes my plants die or get eaten by pests. Luckily my father and father-in-law are quite handy when it comes to building things and my mother in an expert on English roses. The fiancé sometimes (reluctantly) helps out and our dog likes to help by digging up my freshly planted flowers or by adding some organic manure to the garden.

Basically this blog is a desperate cry for help and this is not at all a place where you find helpful tips because I have no idea what I am doing. But maybe you can learn from my mistakes. 🤷
